LinkNYC Wi-Fi Kiosk Installation

Wi-Fi Kiosk Installation for the Five Burroughs

MFM Contracting is happy to be part of the CityBridge Wi-Fi Kiosk installation project, LinkNYC.

LinkNYC is a new communications network that is replacing New York City pay phones with state-of-the-art kiosks called Links.”

Our firm helped bring free Wi-Fi & charging stations to New York City. We worked with the CityBridge. CityBridge is a project that includes Intersection, Qualcomm and CIVIQ Smartscapes.

Our Role

Our team removed the old phone booths. Then we installed conduit, electrical cable & the new free public Wi-Fi Kiosks throughout the five boroughs.

The kiosks provide free public Wi-Fi, phone calls & device charging. Plus a tablet built into the kiosks gives access to city services, maps, directions and more.

Our scope included:
removal of pay phone units,
installation of conduit,
installation of electrical cable and
installation of new kiosks.

Improving NYC & Generating Terrific Press Reviews

ARS Technica has a thorough 4 min video review of the new services on YouTube here.  In 2016 during the early years of the project they wrote,

“Currently the kiosks are spread out around Manhattan and Queens, and there are plans to install a total of 7,500 stations around the city over the next few years. Link NYC explains on its website that all the money used to build these kiosks comes from partnerships and advertising (which makes sense, since most of the surface area of each kiosk is covered in scrolling ads), so taxpayer money isn’t used in the program.”
